Samuel musician / Southerner by choice

Born in Philadelphia by chance but Southern by the grace of God, Sam Murphy spends much of his time with his guitar, trying to combine the musical philosophies of simplicity and ferocity into a unique style that hovers somewhere between Erik Satie, Duane Denison, and William Reid.
United with others in the moving-inspired musical juggernaut of LIFTGATE, he is seeking a loose brick in the wall of ordinary tunes so that he may break down the mediocrity inherent in modern music.
Other hours are spent dreaming of riding horses in lands untouched by the solidity of concrete or the smell of diesel fumes.
The time left over he may be seen reading tomes involving the secret machinations that guide us through our lives. He enjoys the scent of campfire and the shapes of hawks. Years spent working with cameras have taught him how to capture the beautiful and spontaneous world, and he soldiers on in an attempt to relate this terrible wonder to humanity at large.

Every year around Thanksgiving MANNA is engaged in their Pie in the Sky program. Every year Mambo Movers volunteer in distributing the pies around Philadelphia. Look at the smiling faces!
